The Expulsion of the Jews from Spain is a detailed study of the events surrounding this infamous chapter in Spanish history. Based on hundreds of documents discovered, deciphered, and analysed during decades of intensive archival research, this work focuses on the practical consequences of the expulsion both for those expelled and those remaining behind. It responds to basic questions such as: What became of property owned by Jewish individuals and communities? What became of outstanding debts between Jews and Christians? How was the Edict of Expulsion implemented? What happened to those who converted to Christianity in order to remain in Spain or return to that country? The material summarized and analysed in this study also sheds light on Jewish life in Spain preceding the expulsion. For example, Jews are shown to have been present in remote villages where they were not hitherto known to have lived, and documents detailing lawsuits between Christians related to debts left behind by Jews reveal much about business and financial relations between Jews and Christians. This four-part collection discusses Jews in Spain at the outset and their transition from a Diasporic lifestyle to hiding their Jewish identity in the shadow of Christianity. Furthermore, the essays delve into the history of Spanish and Portuguese Jews who underwent forced conversion and their relationship with fellow Jews on the Iberian Peninsula and outside it. The essays cover 1500 years of Jewish history in Spain, until the Spanish expulsion. The fourth part examines various aspects of Jewish history.

There were Jews in Spain for almost a thousand and five hundred years. The book depicts the last chapter of Jewish life in Spain, which ended with their expulsion at the end of the 15th century. The book begins with analyzing the expulsion order, and continues with what happened to their belongings, how were the belongings taken away, cancellation of the Jewish-Christian credit, the exit from Spain, smuggling belongings out of Spain. It ends with returning to the original cities. Beinart adds information about Senior and Abarbanel houses, their description shows the abuse the expelled Jews suffered.

Moreshet Sepharad: The Sephardi Legacy sets out to summarize the monumental legacy of a Jewish community that resided within the historical boundaries of Spain for some fifteen hundred years. Many chapters evaluate the contribution of Sephardi Jewry to the renaissance of Hebrew Language and science. These as well as many issues in Jewish communal life, have been analyzed and evaluated both in the context of Spain prior to the Expulsion and in the various settings where the exiles settled and formed new social patterns. The thirty-eight chapters which make up the work provide guidelines which the student or interested reader may utilize to gain a deeper understanding of the essence of Sephardi Jewry in the basis of its glorious past and heritage.

The third volume in the Hispania Judaica series is the revised and expanded English version of Anussim be'Din ha-Inqvisitzia in which Haim Beinart describes a community of converses in the days of the Spanish Inquisition. This fascinating story of the conversos of Ciudad Real is eloquently presented on the basis of the Inquisition files which depict the conversos' deep yearning for their Jewish past and the ultimate sacrifice they were prepared to offer for their continued adherence to their ancestral faith. Much additional material from the trial records of the Ciduad Real conversos and other source material from the Spanish archives revive and reconstruct Jewish life led clandestinely by the converses before the Expulsion from Spain.
