Francisco de Vitoria was born in Burgos in the Northern Spain in 1480. In 1515 he was ordained by the general assembly of the Dominican order in Naples as an assistant lecturer for Peter Lombard. In 1520 he was accepted into the Sorbonne in Paris, where he finished his theological studies. In 1526 he was elected to the prime chair of theology at Salamanca University, at which he remained until his death in 1546. De Vitoria was known for educating eminent students which went on to become prominent teachers in the main academic centers of Europe, as well as distinguished church officials.
