Shlomo Pines

Prof. Shlomo Pines (1908-1990) is best known for his work on Jewish and Islamic Philosophy, and in particular for his English translation of Maimonides' "Guide of the Perplexed". However his scholarly work transcends boundaries. His studies treat many and diverse fields, e.g., the transmission of knowledge from Greek to Arabic, medieval Arabic science, the early Jewish Christians, and the interrelationship between different religious traditions. He taught at the Department of Jewish Thought at The Hebrew University and received the Israel Prize in 1968.
