The late Sinai Leichter was born in Poland and was able to immigrate to Eretz Israel in 1935 as a student of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem thanks to a special Student Certificate issued by the Mandate authorities. He received a graduate degree in Hebrew literature, and the history of the Jewish people.
He joined the staff of "Encyclopedia Judaica" as an editorial co-ordinator. From 1978 he worked as a senior official of the Department of Public Relations of The Hebrew University. He organized the public committee which published "The Anthology of Yiddish Folksongs" and acted as its chief editor.
The Hebrew University awarded him in the year 2000, the title "Honorary Fellow."
