Israel Adler is Professor Emeritus in Musicology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is founder and first director of the JMRC. He received his PhD at the Sorbonne, Paris. He served as director of the Music Department of the Jewish National and University Library and founder of the National Sound Archives, (1963-1969); director of the Jewish National and University Library (1969-1971); founder and director of the JMRC (1964-1996); Chairman of the Academic Committee of the JMRC (1996-2001); and founder and editor of Yuval: Studies of the JMRC, Yuval Monograph Series and Anthology of Musical Traditions in Israel Series. His field of interest is medieval to 18th century Jewish music.
