Natalia Ginzburg (1916-1991), one of the most prominent voices in twentieth-century Italian culture, was born in Palermo, and later moved with her family to Turin. In 1938 she married Leone Ginzburg, a professor of Slavic literature at the University of Turin who fought against fascism and was murdered by the Gestapo in 1944. After the war, she moved with her children to Rome, where she became an editor and translator. In the 1950s she started publishing her works - novels, plays, short stories and essays.
