The Hebrew University Press Association Jerusalem was founded during the
early years of the university as the primary press for publishing the studies
of its scholars and as an outlet for publishing textbooks. The types of
publications and the subjects published by Magnes have known changes, becoming
broader and more varied, just as has happened in other university presses
around the world. Nevertheless, and despite the dynamic nature of the book
market, especially during the digital age, the press and the book continue to
exist with vengeance.
Magnes Press: Ninety Years On introduces a variety of perspectives on
the history of Magnes Press, as well as a few words on academic presses in
general. It focuses on the essence of the press's work, featuring surveys of
selection of titles published over Magnes's ninety years. The book constitutes a
window to the past and stimulates thoughts on the future of books and their
place in academic culture and in Israeli culture in particular.
